Why are Trains being Built in Spain
Why not Build them Here?
The NSW government decided that we should replace our aging intercity trains and we all agree that is and was a good, how be it belated, decision and as we have had a number of good train builders in Australia, including in Newcastle NSW. The failure of considering a submission by Newcastle’s Goninan train building firm has seen this company close due to the lack of orders. The NSW Government at the time chose a Spanish firm to build the trains without a full explanation as to why the local business in Australia, including Newcastle’s Goninan were not successful. Much has been said about these trains and there has been cost blow outs and completion date delays. in Sydney Morning Herald on 5th January, 2024 we read at the following link: https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/three-years-late-and-826m-over-budget-more-delays-for-sydney-s-new-trains-20240102-p5eunc.html that the delays and the cost blowouts continue.
Three years late and $826m over budget: More delays for Sydney’s new trains
It is said of democracy that it should be: The government of the people by the people for the people: so why is our governments continually using overseas manufactures to produce that which our people can produce at a reliable price and completion date close to time? It is about time that we have a government that believes in Australia for Australians and therefore gives first options to Australian Businesses that are in Australia and are at least majority Australian owned, it is not their job to prop up other countries!
The Christians for Community believe that Australians can manufacture most things that we need and that we have a workforce capable of producing most, if not all that we need. The single best job creation scheme is to give preference to Australian businesses to manufacture the things we will need, and such decisions will enhance our economic growth in real terms. The huge international debt that the governments of Australia have created and are making decisions causing continuing to growth in that international debt could be restrained and even reduced as we gear up to local manufacturing of the products we need. While some environmentalists will claim that this will increase our carbon foot-print, if we manufacture things in Australia, this argument is totally faulty as if we buy the manufactured product our obtaining of the product is directly related to any carbon foot-print so created by its manufacture. In fact if we are concerned about the size of the carbon foot-print local production would mean that we would have direct input into the safe reduction of the size of that carbon foot-print. Therefore the environmentalists should be chaffing at the bit to support local manufacturing as much as possible.
If you believe that the manufacturing of things for Australian’s in Australia should be the aim and goal of each and every government in Australia please support Christians for Community in our campaign to BUILD THEM HERE!
