Children in Custody

The recent years we have seen children caught in custody due to border protection measures. We contend that it is unwise to have children in custody one day longer than necessary. A policy is balanced when there are no unintended consequences and children being held in custody are often the unintended consequences.

Policy:

  • No child will be held in custody because of border protection measures unless they and their family are actively being deported.

  • The incarceration of children must only be in facilities designed for this purpose and only for their own criminal actions.

  • Any incarceration of a child must with the view of rehabilitation of the offender to return to society as soon as is reasonably possible
