The Gender Dysphoria Tide is Turning in Australia
In Western Australia the tide is beginning to turn in the battle to protect gender-confused children from harmful and experimental medical treatments. In a groundbreaking move, WA Liberal leader Libby Mettam has announced her party’s policy to ban puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical interventions for minors under 16. This courageous stand makes the WA Liberals the first major Australian party to reject the dangerous affirmation-only model of “care”. We now wait for NSW Government to withdraw their Anti Conversion Therapy that was recently enacted during April this year.
WA Premier Libby Mettam emphasises that this policy is driven by evidence, not ideology, citing the UK’s Cass Review which recommends discontinuing the affirmation pathway due to long-term harms and lack of proven benefits. She contrasts this with federal Health Minister Mark Butler’s flippant dismissal of the Cass Review, claiming that Australian gender clinics operate “differently”.
In reality, our Australian clinics follow the risky affirmation-only approach. While Minister Mark Butler seems beholden to radical gender ideology, Libby Mettam rightly prioritises children’s safety, calling for a comprehensive review and a ban on these experimental treatments.
As Christians for Community, we applaud leaders like Libby Mettam who stand for truth and protect vulnerable youth. Let us pray for more MPs to follow her example, putting the wellbeing of children above political pressures.
1 Corinthians 15:58 – “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Remember when you pray – ‘One needs to not only pray with words and belief in those words but also one needs to take all action that they can to demonstrate absolute faith in ones prayer’.
Action you can take is to go to your local member with the request to read the full version of the Cass review, the link to this review is here https://cass.independent-review.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/CassReview_Final.pdf

Remember the Christians for Community policy position is to repeal all aspects of the NSW Anti Conversion Therapy Act that is currently approved to come into force in May 2024 and to ammend the Child protection act to prevent any further experimental medical treatment that is idologically driven.
