Newcastle City Council elections 2024

Milton Caine, a married wheelchair accessible taxi driver, has nominated as an Independent candidate for the Lord Mayor of Newcastle because of many concerns that are not being addressed by the council under the present leadership:

  • Currently pious platitudes made about affordable housing without targeting the needs of the vulnerable.
  • A bike and walking friendly city creates extra hazards for the walking impaired.
  • The development of playing fields into housing estates is counter
  • productive and unwise.
  • The continual removal of parking in the CBD is alarming to many in the community
  • The increase of vacant commercial properties in the CBD is evidence of a wrong direction
  • The failure to maintain the outer suburbs roads from cracking up and potholes
  • The failure of maintaining the parks, gardens, pools and public spaces
  • The failure to supply adequate road space to new developments
  • The failure to adequately address the flooding at Wallsend
  • The failure to seriously address the erosion of the shore line of Stockton
  • The huge rate increases that have been imposed in recent years
  • The failure to deliver sufficient community confidence in the General Manager due to allegations of the “letters gate” issue.

…………..and so much more!

Milton Caine, Lord Mayor independent candidate and number 2 candidate in ward 3, is speaking with Timothy Boyce, lead independent candidate in ward 4 concerning the development at Minmi. Both our concerns are the manner of the subdivision where all the vegetation is removed and the entire top soil is completely disturbed. As well the road access to this development already sufers from too much peak hour traffic and yet no plans to expand the road into a two lane each way roadway. We both express that the council must do a far better job in how we do subdivisions in the future.
